Our second attendance at a Rapha Prestige took us to Limburg. Wikipedia says the Mergelland is known for its asparagus but as we stayed in Epen the only restaurant which was willing to make some food after 9pm was a local pizza place.
Start and finish of this Rapha Prestige was at the Netherlands only chalet – the Boscafé ‘t Hijgend Hert’ in the middle of the Vijlenerwald.
Gerben did a great job creating a spectacular route through Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands while Franco supported the teams at the first and second checkpoint. He set up the Mobile Cycle Club at the Eupen reservoir serving coffee, snacks and water.
We got a little excited when we realized that Marianne Vos was riding with us so the pace increased a little for the next 40km but we got caught after a flat. Followed by a broken spoke the race was over. While Pamo enjoyed prosecco and strawberries in the sun we went on to get the car to pick him up later.
